New president for the Asian American Bar Association of Ohio

Sachin Java, an associate with Ulmer & Berne in its Cleveland office, is the newest president of the Asian American Bar Association of Ohio with the start of 2023.

Java, a Crain’s Cleveland Business 40 Under Forty honoree in 2022 who previously served as the AABAO’s president-elect, will continue to serve as a member of the group’s board of trustees.

The AABAO, founded in 1992, is based in Cleveland. It is the local affiliate of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, which is described as the nation’s largest Asian Pacific American membership organization representing the interest of 60,000 attorneys, judges, law professors and law students.

According to its website, the AABAO strives to “foster a high level of professional achievement, participation and responsiveness among our members in legal and law-related fields; to encourage the active participation of our members in the greater community; to support the professional growth and advancement of our members; and to promote awareness of the issues and concerns facing the Asian Pacific American legal community and the Asian Pacific American community-at-large.”

Java is a former research administrator for the Cleveland Clinic who changed careers.

His practice focuses on corporate law matters, according to Ulmer, including mergers and acquisitions, banking and commercial finance as well as general business counseling.

Here are some more details about Java as laid out by his firm: Outside of his practice, Java is a member of the Mergers and Acquisition Committee and Business Law Fellows Committee for the American Bar Association, the Ethics and Professionalism Committee and Council on Conscious Inclusion for the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association and the Board of Directors for the Cleveland Animal Protective League. He also serves as an Alumni Mentor for the Cleveland State University College of Law Alumni Association Mentor Program. In addition, Java is a member of the Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Committee for the firm.
