Eversheds Sutherland announces US leadership changes and partner and counsel promotions for 2023

Eversheds Sutherland is pleased to announce that Sarah Paul has joined the firm’s US Executive Committee. Ms. Paul joined Eversheds Sutherland in 2019 and is the Co-Global Head of Corporate Crime & Investigations, resident in the firm’s New York office. Her practice spans all areas of white-collar defense, with a particular focus on government, internal and cross-border investigations, tax controversy, and cybersecurity and privacy law. She joined Eversheds Sutherland from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, where she served for over nine years as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Criminal Division.

“Since joining us just a few years ago, Sarah has worked with lawyers around the world on some of our largest client matters and I am thrilled she is taking on this new leadership role,” said Mark D. Wasserman, Co-CEO of Eversheds-Sutherland. 

With Ms. Paul’s election, women now comprise 40% of the Eversheds Sutherland US governing body. She joins Robert Copps, Olga Greenberg, Griff Griffin, Cynthia Krus, Lino Mendiola, John Pruitt, Wade Stribling, Maria Todorova and Mr. Wasserman, who will continue their service on the US Executive Committee.

Additionally, the firm is pleased to announce that it has promoted 20 of its US attorneys to partner and counsel, effective January 1, 2023. The promoted attorneys span across several of the firm’s practice areas and sectors. Notably, half of the promotions are women.

Elizabeth Cha (New York, Tax) counsels clients on state and local taxation matters, including tax structuring and planning, where she regularly advises on a full range of tax types such as income, franchise, sales and use, and property taxes. She also advises clients on unclaimed property matters, such as voluntary disclosure and audit management, among other areas.

Counsel

Alex Brown (Atlanta, Finance) counsels lenders and borrowers on a variety of secured and unsecured commercial lending and structured finance transactions in the telecommunications, timber/agribusiness, energy and financial services industries, among others. 

Frank Comparetto (Atlanta, Tax) advises multinational clients on domestic and international tax planning and transactional matters, and with complex tax laws and regulations, defending and negotiating for taxpayers in disputes with the IRS and other tax agencies and boards.

David Cone (Atlanta, Real Estate) represents developers, pension fund administrators, lenders and borrowers in a variety of real estate finance and development matters, including acquisitions, dispositions, leasing and financing transactions.

Pedro Dorado (Atlanta, Real Estate) represents clients on the purchase and sale of improved and unimproved real estate property, advising in financing transactions and the negotiation of joint venture agreements for development of commercial real estate projects.

Melissa Fox (Atlanta, Litigation) counsels clients on a variety of business and commercial litigation matters, including financial services, securities litigation and enforcement, and professional liability.

Brittany Edwards-Franklin (Atlanta, Tax) counsels clients on a range of employee benefits matters, including qualified retirement plans, nonqualified deferred compensation and executive compensation. She also advises on employee benefits aspects of mergers and acquisitions.

Garrett Gibson (Houston, Litigation) advises on an array of complex business and commercial litigation and arbitration matters, representing clients in state and federal courts at both the trial and appellate levels. He regularly assists with trial strategy and is well-versed in handling energy, construction and commercial disputes.

Mack Heller (Atlanta, Real Estate) advises on a wide range of complex real estate matters, including the development, acquisition, debt and equity financing, leasing and disposition of multifamily, industrial, retail, and office assets, with a particular emphasis on multi-phase, multi-party and mixed-use urban and suburban development projects.

Albert Heng (San Diego, Intellectual Property) counsels clients including solo inventors, start-ups, international corporations and Fortune 500 companies on a wide range of intellectual property issues.

Kelsey Machado (Houston, Litigation) counsels on complex commercial litigation matters, representing clients in state and federal courts litigating in various areas, including oil and gas, construction, maritime, employment, consumer protection, trademark infringement and other general business litigation matters.

Michael Mannino (Atlanta, Corporate) advises publicly held and private firms in mergers and acquisitions, capital raising, leveraged buyouts, venture capital investments, private placements of securities, and exit strategies. He also counsels developers, investors and businesses in a variety of real estate matters.

Deepa Menon (Washington, Tax) counsels businesses in the complex areas of employment, worker privacy, workplace security privacy, data protection and technology product issues.  

Maggie Pope (Washington, Tax) represents multinational clients in connection with the international tax aspects of their cross-border transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, tax credit planning, complex spin-offs, finance company arrangements and corporate restructurings.

Alla Raykin (Atlanta, Tax) advises clients on a full range of state and local tax (SALT) matters, including litigation, controversy, policy, and planning. She counsels on all state and local tax types, including sales and use, income, franchise, and property taxes.

Benjamin Reed (Atlanta, Litigation) advises clients in all aspects of complex commercial litigation and dispute resolution, representing clients nationwide in a variety of business law matters.

Michael Resnick (Washington, Tax) focuses his practice on federal taxation matters, including tax accounting methods and compliance, planning and controversy issues. He regularly counsels clients on the proper tax treatment of costs associated with tangible property, intangible property and corporate transaction costs. 

Sara Sabour (Washington, Capital Markets) counsels public and private entities on their efforts to raise capital and to launch market operations. She also counsels clients on a variety of financial and corporate governance matters.
